The Algorithm ChatGPT

ChatGPt is an Ai natural language processing chatbot that allows users to have human-like conversation. The GPT stands for generative pretrained transformer and it was launched by OpenAI in November of 2022. The purpose of chatGPT is to provide informative and accurate responses to question in natural languages like answering factual question, for example-what is the capital of Nigeria? and generating creative text, for example write a story of idemiri, the Nigerian water god. 

ChatGPT is a language model created by OpenAI that have been trained on vast amount of text data from the internet. It uses this training to respond to question based on pattern as seen in the data so in some ways it gets data the same way we do, through reflection, learning and training which helps it in generating its responses. However, it is important to know the generative engine of the chatGPT is “the internet” which is not always correct or up-to-date and so the responses generated by the chatGPT may not always be 100% correct. To safeguards the ingenuity and accuracy of its responses, it is important to critically evaluate these responses and rely not on them as the sole source of information.

Many teachers, college admission officer, hiring managers and essay organizer worry that chatGPT might lead people to be disingenuous or cheat which undermines learning, incur devaluation process which should not be encouraged or condoned. Well chatGPT can generate responses to questions, it is important for individuals to understand the importance of original work and to not use the technology to substitute their own effort, the ultimate responsibility for ensuring academic integrity and ethical behavior lies within the individual using chatGPT and should be used in a manner that aligns with the institution policies and guidelines.
